SIKESTON -- J. C. Dover, 78, of Sikeston and formerly of Oran, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1918, at Bertrand, the son of John Wesley and Bird Cooper Dover. He married Orena N. Duke on Nov. 29, 1941, in New Madrid. She survives.

He was a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the 31st Weather Squadron during World War II.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sikeston.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Johnny C. Dover of Bell City; one daughter, Kay Rampley of Sikeston; two brothers, Durward Dover of Oran and Veachel Dover of Bartow, Fla., two sisters, Hazel Howe of St. Louis and Nota Ables of Sikeston; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Venita Ann Dover, five brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Mike Quillman officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
