J.B. "Bill" Ashcraft, was born Jan. 28, 1900 in Buchanan, MO to Ambrose Wayne Ashcraft and Sarah Adeline Ashcraft. He moved with his family to Brownwood in 1904 and spent most of his life there. He died at the Lander Valley Regional Medical Center in Lander, WY on June 30, 1998.
He and Ruby Pritchett were married on Oct. 29, 1929 in St. Louis, MO. He is survived by his wife and four children, Bill and Ann Ashcraft of Overland Park, Kansas, Sue and Al Parker of Lander, WY, Peggy and Dave Jensen of Lander, WY, and Lyman and Nancy Ashcraft of Benton, MO.Mr. Ashcraft is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three sisters-in-law, Eva Ashcraft, Lela Lawler and Imogene Dake, five nephews, and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
Bill was postmaster at Brownwood for many years and drove a school bus for the Advance Consolidated School District. He was instrumental in the publication of the Brownwood, MO Community History. A year ago Bill and Ruby moved to Lander, WY to be near family.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, MO. Services will be Monday, July 6, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel with interment at Brownwood Cemetery, at Brownwood, MO with Rev. Watis Harrell and Rev. Naamon Eaker officiating.
