SIKESTON -- J.C. "Jay" DeJournett, 71, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Essex, son of Jessie and Opal Lemons DeJournett. He and Marjorie V. Foster were married April 10, 1943, in Piggott, Ark.
DeJournett was a foreman more than 25 years with Herman H. Walker Construction Co. in Oxnard, Calif., and was a member of the plasterers union there. He moved to Sikeston in 1972 and owned and operated Jay's Carpet Cleaning.
He attended First Assembly of God Church. DeJournett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Connie Rinehart of Sikeston, Carrol DeJournett of the home; two sisters, Aline Harris of Denver, Tenn., Etta Temples of Dexter; and three grandsons.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Terry Carter officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
