ROCKVIEW, Mo. -- Janet Sue Sadler Totty, 76, of Rockview earned her angel wings and went to be with our Lord and Savior in the early morning hours Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 28, 1943, Janet was the second-to-youngest child of Ira Andrew and Edna Louise Saddler Sadler in St. Louis. The family moved to Rockview when Janet was a young girl, and she attended school in Rockview.
On Feb. 6, 1960, Janet married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Jerry K. Totty. They made their home in Rockview and had three children.
Over the years, Janet held a host of different jobs, including at Florsheim Shoe and Chaffee Nursing Center. She also traveled the country with Jerry for many years with his work. Her most treasured roles, however, were that of loving wife, dedicated mother and grandmother and fiercely loyal friend. She was an extremely passionate and compassionate person with a heart of gold and a great sense of humor and style.
Janet was well known among her family and friends as an honest friend who was always there to lend an ear and tell it like it is, if you wanted to hear it or not. In her younger years, you would likely find her and Jerry whipping it up on a dance floor somewhere. She also loved her bingo. She was involved in local clubs and spent many evenings with friends and family there.
Also known for her amazing skills in the kitchen, Janet was famous for her chicken and dumplings, potato salad and chocolate pies. She would share her recipes and try to pass her tips and tricks on to her family and friends when they asked, but we all know it'll never be "like Momma's." She was so loved, and will be incredibly missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
She is survived by her sister, Anna-Mae Nanney, and brother, Ira Lee "Pete" (Ruth-Ann) Sadler, both of Chaffee, Missouri; sons, Brian (Debra) Totty of Rockview, Mark (Tracey) Totty, of Albany, Illinois, and daughter, Tammy (David) Shackles of Rockview; grandchildren, Brandy (Joshua) Slayden, Keith (Jessica) Totty, Krissy (Scott) Barnhart, Ryan (Jessica) Welch, Kristopher, Jeremy, Jesse, Teasha, Wyatt and Briar Totty; great-grandchildren, Gage, Natalie, Ellis and Dane McMullin, Taylor and Katelynn McKnight, Noah and Eli Slayden, Harley McGuire, Silas, Tristan, Ryalyn and Zoe Welch, Jeramey, Torie, Chyanne and Brynlee Totty, Karsen and Araya-May Totty, Mason, Emberly and Taleah Bundy and Ryland Totty.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents, Ira and Edna; brothers, Kenny, Donald and Jackie; and sisters Betty, Stella and Wilma.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. today for family and from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday for friends at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Chaffee Elks Lodge after interment for fellowship and refreshments.
