Janet Sue Meyer, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Lutheran Home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Perryville, Missouri, to J. George and Fern Rabold Muench. She and Richard W. Meyer were married Aug. 12, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.
Janet graduated from Perryville High School in 1956. She then attended St. Paul College in Concordia, Missouri, for two years.
In 1958 she was assigned to teach at St. Paul Lutheran School in Houston, where she stayed for one year. She returned to Cape Girardeau and completed requirements for her Bachelor of Science degree at Southeast Missouri State University, where she was also a member of the Golden Eagles Marching Band.
In 1960 she began teaching at Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau and was there for five years. During that time, she also received a Master of Education degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She then began teaching at Jefferson School in Cape Girardeau and continued there for 32 years, until her retirement in 1998.
She truly enjoyed traveling, and during summer vacations and retirement years, visited many foreign countries and all 50 states. When possible, she was accompanied by her husband or very close friend, Judy Peetz.
Janet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and served her church on different boards and committees.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Meyer of Cape Girardeau, and her brother, John (Martha) Muench of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School or a favorite charity.
