ORAN, Mo. -- Janet Ann Kilbury Knoderer, 84, of Oran passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 28, 1927, in Plain City, Ohio, to William Alwood and Cleo Whip Kilbury. She and Anson Knoderer were married June 26, 1949, in Sunbury, Ohio.
Janet was a graduate of Ohio State University with a physical education degree. She taught briefly at Scott City Schools. She was a member of Bell City United Methodist Church.
She was founder of the organization Depressive Bipolar Support Alliance of Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau. She worked tirelessly as an advocate for the mentally ill.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband; a brother, Thomas Kilbury and wife Thelma of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, William Knoderer and wife Dawn of Oran; two daughters, Elizabeth "Cissy" Williams and husband Dale of Oran, Sarah Moran and husband Michael of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melissa Keller and husband Gabe of St. Louis, Matthew Knoderer and wife Jennifer of Cape Girardeau, Megan Guizani and husband Mehdi of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jessica Moran of Depoe Bay, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren, Nicolette and William Knoderer of Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bell City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Nancy Gillard, Crown Hospice chaplain, and the Rev. Gwen Streeter, pastor of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
