Jane Mowery, 79, of Oak Ridge died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Tampa, Fla., to John and Emily Linley Darby.
She and Virgil Mowery were married Nov. 23, 1949, at Illmo, Mo.
Jane was a homemaker most of her life. She and Virgil would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this November.
She was a very loving grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was an excellent seamstress. She also loved gardening, and was an avid bird-watcher.
She was a graduate of Illmo High School. She was a teacher's aide in the Oak Ridge School system for 10 years and absolutely loved it.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Mowery of Oak Ridge; a son, Virgil Walter (Debbie) Mowery of Fruitland; three daughters, Vickie (Rick) Naeger of Cape Girardeau, Connie (Julie Wheatley) Mowery of St. Louis, Cheryl Hill of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Jack Darby of Scott City; two sisters, Jeananne Goodman of Scott City, June Asmus of Chaffee, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Nathan, Kile and Justin Mowery, Kristopher Naeger, Lauren Judd and Jason Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Darby; her mother Emily Darby; a son, John Michael Mowery; and a brother, John Darby.
Friends may call at 11 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jon Sedgwick officiating. Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
