SIKESTON, Mo. -- James Stanly Woods, 90, of Sikeston died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Sikeston Convalescent Center. He was born July 9, 1920, in Charleston, Mo., son of John T. and Mable O. Hyde Woods. Woods was a graduate of Chaffee High School and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1952. SIKESTON, Mo. -- James Stanly Woods, 90, of Sikeston died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

He was born July 9, 1920, in Charleston, Mo., son of John T. and Mable O. Hyde Woods.

Woods was a graduate of Chaffee High School and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1952. He was a teacher with Sikeston public schools from 1952 to 1964, then administrator from 1964 until retiring in 1980.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 to 1946, attaining rank of 1st lieutenant.

He was inducted to the Sikeston School Wall of Fame.

Mr. Woods was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, member and past president of Sikeston Rotary Club, member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge AF&AM 615, Scott County Teachers Association, State Retired Teachers Association, Sikeston American Legion Henry Meldrum Post 114, and former member of Elks Lodge in Chaffee and Sikeston.

He and Maxine M. Jenkins were married April 5, 1943.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Kaye Hathhorn of Cape Girardeau; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Woods of Sikeston; a brother, Sherman Woods of Burfordville; four grandchildren, Jimmy Woods, Ellie Collom, Leasa Maxfield, Christy Huffman; five great-grandchildren, Victoria Collom, Levi Collom, Payton Maxfield, Logan Huffman and Zach Huffman.

Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service at Ponder Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Ross, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Woods, Glenn Collom, Paul Hill, David Hill, Dale Sexton and Pat Jones.
