CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for James Wesley Smith of Charleston will be held at 2 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Chapel. Shelton Peeler and Phillip Nuernberger will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery.
Smith, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 1994, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Cascilla, Miss., son of Floyd J. and Ruby Corker Smith. He and Jackie Dover were married Jan. 3, 1946.
Smith was a self-employed appliance repairman, and was pastor of Cairo Church of Christ until retiring in October 1993 because of ill health. He was a member of Charleston Church of Christ, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James and Garry Smith of Charleston; two daughters, Ruby Ann Shanks of Sikeston, Judy Whitehead of Charleston; a brother, Jesse Caldwell of Hornersville; a sister, Edith Harris of Hornersville, and five grandchildren.
