James W. "Jay" Green, 91, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Lutheran Home Assisted Living West in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Friday, Nov. 17, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to the late James L. and Gertrude Pearl (Borneman) Green.
James and Mabel M. Maevers were married Oct. 10, 1941, in Egypt Mills, Missouri.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1943 and retired in 1984 after 30 years of employment with Tucker Truck Line.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel M. Green of Cape Girardeau; son, James W. (Debra) Green Jr. of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Pam (John) Myers of Cape Girardeau and Tori (Mike) Pobst of Oran, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jimmy (Lacie) Griffaw, Clayton Myers, Jami and Jayden Pobst; seven great-great grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Jerry (Missy) Laxton and Jamie (Kevin) Halter; five step great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Sue (Glenn) Oldham of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Private entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
