PEVELY, Mo. -- James Daniel Thompson Sr., age 72, of Pevely passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Jan. 22, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, son of Merrill M. and Delaphine Johnson Thompson. Jim served his country proudly as a sergeant in the Army. He was part of the 11th Armored Calvary, Black Horse Alumni, Order of the Purple Heart, the National Rifle Association and Paralyzed Veterans of America...

PEVELY, Mo. -- James Daniel Thompson Sr., age 72, of Pevely passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Jan. 22, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, son of Merrill M. and Delaphine Johnson Thompson.

Jim served his country proudly as a sergeant in the Army. He was part of the 11th Armored Calvary, Black Horse Alumni, Order of the Purple Heart, the National Rifle Association and Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Thompson of Pevely; sons, James "Danny" Daniel (Dixie) Thompson Jr. of Sedgewickville, Missouri; Michael "Shane" (Amy) Thompson of Fruitland; Kevin (Chloe') Byerley of St. Louis; and Mark (Krissy) Byerley of Festus, Missouri; daughter Karen (Matt) Sides of Herculaneum, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers, Bob Thompson of Oak Ridge; Billy Thompson of Marion, Illinois; Raymond Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee; David Thompson of Morley, Missouri; Gary Thompson of Memphis; and Jeff Thompson of Marble Hill, Missouri; and sisters, Betty Brown and Judy Sproles, both of Nashville, and Linda McBride of Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ida Marie Thompson; and sisters, Ruth Ann Miller and Patricia Faircloth.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Little Whitewater Church.

Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the Revs. Don Estes, Donnie Ford, Jim Collins and Don Slatten officiating. Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery near Gordonville.

Liley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
