CAIRO, Ill. -- James P. Sweet, 78, of Cairo died Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Nov. 4, 1918, in New Madird, son of Virgil and Tressa Ellen Blake Sweet.
Sweet retired as a machinist with Lockheed Aircraft Corp. He was a member of Cairo United Pentecostal Church. He served in the U.S. Army durng World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Corrine of Freeburg, Ill.; a daughter, Jimmie Barber of Kentucky; a stepson, Larry Cawhron of Orange County, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Judy Rachel of Freeburg; a sister, Eva Jones of Sikeston; a niece with whom he had lived, Melba Wallace of Cairo; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cairo United Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Robert Burchyett officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery at Mound City.
