James “Jim” Leon Stone, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at Lutheran Home.

He was born March 30, 1935, in Oriole to Willis Clayton and Norma Maxine Humes Stone. He and Jeannette McDowell were married May 3, 1959, at Cape Girardeau.

Jim was a member of Rifle Company of the National Guard at Jackson for two years, where he won awards for marksmanship.

He was multi-talented in so many ways. He enjoyed doing odd jobs for widows and churches and never expected anything in return.

At Foursquare Church, where he and Jeannette met, Jim helped construct the upper story after working all day at his job in the rock quarry. He served as deacon/council member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent and head usher. He helped Jeannette with the bulletin each Sunday, transported people to and from church, mowed the lawn for the church, and helped remodel the church basement and upstairs. When he saw something needing to be done, he did it. He and Jeanette were members of Foursquare for around 38 years.

He and Jeannette left that church in 1992 and came to Bethel Assembly of God in Cape Girardeau. There, Jim served by greeting, ushering, opening the church, cleaning, doing small plumbing jobs, etc.
