SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- James V. "Jim" Stone of Springfield passed away Aug. 7, 2015, at the age of 82. Jim was born in Cape Girardeau and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Following a career in mechanical engineering, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, creating stained glass, dancing and listening to live music. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- James V. "Jim" Stone of Springfield passed away Aug. 7, 2015, at the age of 82.

Jim was born in Cape Girardeau and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

Following a career in mechanical engineering, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, creating stained glass, dancing and listening to live music. He was a member of American Legion Post 639 in Springfield, having served proudly in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and his wife of 52 years, Marguerite (Graden).

Jim is survived by two brothers, Gene (Marci) Stone and Bob (Dian) Stone; two sons, Mark (Kathy) Stone and Mike (Diana) Stone; a daughter, Denise Ashley; grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Bradrick, Ryan (Kenya) Bradrick, Ben (Amber) Stone, Jessica (Justin) Willard and Madeline Ashley; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; fiancee Patricia Binning; and many, many friends.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 639.
