James Stoll, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at his home in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by his family. James Stoll, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at his home in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by his family.

James was born July 17, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Clement Louis and Ruby Marie Sander Stoll. He and Shirley Lewis were united in marriage Oct. 11, 1956, in the main Post Chapel at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

James graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School, attended Southeast Missouri University, graduated from the St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing and went on to graduate from Southwest School of Anesthesia.

He served 55 years in the Boy Scouts, earning the Silver Beaver Award and numerous other service awards. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs and was a member of the Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

James served his country proudly as a first lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne from 1952 to 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Stoll of Cape Girardeau; sons, Kenneth Stoll of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Bryan Stoll of Hortonville, Wisconsin; daughter, Karen Armstrong of Cape Girardeau; sister Juanita Goode of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and a very special grandson, Ryan James Copanas Stoll of San Francisco.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Pastor Tony Kobak officiating. Burial will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
