James Edward Shrader Sr., 77, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Zalma, Mo., son of Oscar Lee and Hettie Berrong Shrader. He and Ruby Breedlove were married Feb. 4, 1954, in Dexter, Mo. Ruby survives.

James graduated from Zalma High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Korea until 1954 when he was honorably discharged as a corporal.

He began working for Procter & Gamble in St. Louis in 1960, where he was employed 30 years, retiring in 1991. He and Ruby moved to Jackson from Granite City, Ill., in 1990. He became a member of First Baptist Church and was active in the van ministry. Currently he was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church.

Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years; two sons, James (Barbara) Shrader Jr. of Bethalto, Ill., the Rev. Tim (Debbie) Shrader of Litchfield, Ill.; a daughter, Dynette (Michael) Rogier of Glen Carbon, Ill.; two brothers, Leman (Luella) Shrader of Jackson, Norman (Deana) Shrader of DeSoto, Mo.; eight grandchildren, James "Trey" Shrader III, Carrie Cope, Sarah Hill, Beth Anna Shrader, Rachel Shrader, Nathaniel Shrader, Joel and Lydia Rogier.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Berrong Cemetery near Zalma.
