James "Jim" Seyer, 75, of Dutchtown died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Chaffee, Mo., son of August and Minnie Menz Seyer. He entered the Army in 1956 and returned home and married Bertha Ann Glastetter on June 21, 1958.
He was a self-employed insurance agent for the past 30 years. He was previously employed by Sears in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee and of its Men's Club. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran, Mo., and Elks Lodge 1810 in Chaffee.
He is survived by his wife, five sons Herb (Heide) Seyer and Jim P. Seyer, both of Cape Girardeau, Michael (Christie) Seyer of Dutchtown, Ken (Wendy) Seyer of Perryville, Mo., and Jeff (Karen) Seyer of Fruitland; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geneva Essner of New Hamburg, Mo., and Marie Elfrink of Chaffee; and two brothers, Marvin and Don Seyer, both of New Hamburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph Seyer and David Seyer; and one grandchild.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, with parish rosary will at 4:30 p.m., Knights of Columbus prayers at 7 p.m., and a Chaffee Elks Lodge Service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Union Park Cemetery with the Missouri Honors Guard providing full military graveside service.
