James August Roth, 91, of Jackson, formerly of Scott City, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 25, 1925, in Illmo to August John and Anna A. Dissen Roth.

James formerly worked as a yard clerk for the Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a farmer and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church.

He is survived by a brother, David (Carol) Roth of Jackson; two sisters, Mabel Schwark and Ruth Fuhrmann of Indianapolis; a brother-in-law, Carlton Nebel of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Arlene Roth of Frankenmuth, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Leroy Roth; a sister, Bernice Nebel; two brothers-in-law, Augie Schwark and Lloyd Fuhrmann; and a nephew, Mike Fuhrmann.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City, and there will be a hymn-sing at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Marty Hasz officiating. Burial will be in Eisleben Lutheran Cemetery in Scott City.

Memorials may be sent to Eisleben Lutheran Church or Saxony Lutheran High School.
