James C. Ramsey, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 11, 2012, at his home. He was born June 9, 1925, in Cape Girardeau County, to John Clyde and Lillian Ella Statler Ramsey. James C. Ramsey, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 11, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 9, 1925, in Cape Girardeau County, to John Clyde and Lillian Ella Statler Ramsey. He and Betty Lou Chapman were married May 25, 1951, in Cape Girardeau.

James was a member of LaCroix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Ramsey served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and participated in the Okinawa campaign. He retired in 1988 as superintendent of construction and operations from Missouri Utilities and AmerenUE after 35 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Ramsey of Cape Girardeau; two sons, John N. Ramsey (Vickie) of Heber Springs, Ark., and Thomas L. Ramsey (Deb) of Ballwin, Mo.; a daughter, Sue Ellen Talley (Brad) of Whitewater; a sister, Shirley Kurre of Lexington Park, Md.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ramsey of Jackson; two grandsons, Jason Ramsey (Deb) of Arkansas and John Pursell (Carisa) of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Alexis Gayer (Paul) of Colorado and Kaylee Ramsey of Florida; a stepgrandson, Jody Parker of Wichita, Kan.; a great-grandchild, Benjamin Ramsey Pursell; two great-stepgrandchildren, Kyle Parker and Kylie Ann Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles W. Ramsey; and a brother-in-law, Robert Kurre.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rob Mehner officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Military rites will be conducted by the Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
