EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral for James Purvis Parnell of East Prairie will be held at 1 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. The Rev. David Dowdy will officiate. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
Parnell, 73, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Ridgely, Tenn., son of Willie Bob and Faye Green Parnell. He and Hazel Brooks were married in 1954. She died Nov. 11, 1990.
Parnell moved to East Prairie in November 1998 from Des Plaines, Ill. He retired from Illinois Automotive Electric in Des Plaines. He was a member of St. James General Baptist Church in East Prairie.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Jones of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; two brothers, Dean Parnell of Hickman, Ky., Clay Parnell of Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
