THEBES, Ill. -- James Lee McIntyre, 78, of Clay County, Fla., died Monday, May 7, 2007.

He was a native of Thebes. He retired as a crane operator with Laclede Steel Mill. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He moved to Clay County in 1997 from Wood River, Ill.

McIntyre served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Philippine Sea.

Survivors include his wife, the former Fern Snell; two sons, Walter and John McIntyre of Clay County; a brother, Walter McIntyre of Anna, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Holly Hill Funeral Home in Middleburg, Fla., with David Tarkington officiating.
