James E. McDonald, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born April 16, 1928, at Steele, Mo., son of James E. and Virgie Mansfield McDonald. He and Betty Jo Greene were married June 1, 1980, in Cape Girardeau...

James E. McDonald, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1928, at Steele, Mo., son of James E. and Virgie Mansfield McDonald. He and Betty Jo Greene were married June 1, 1980, in Cape Girardeau.

McDonald was a 1951 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He moved to St. Louis in 1956 and back to Cape Girardeau in 1968.

He was the first Department of Labor representative for Congressional District 10 for 25 years. He held various business interests, including owner/operator of Maco Motors Inc. He was a member of Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau. He had been a member of the Rotary Club and American Legion.

McDonald served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James McDonald IV of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Kathy Heise of Jackson, Brenda Schloss of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Wendy Cates of Makanda, Ill.; two sisters, Opal Bailey of Steele, Marie Reed of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and seven sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
