James N. Lichtenegger, 68, of Jackson passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, at his home.
He was born July 9, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Melvin H. and Norma M. Meyer Lichtenegger.
James was a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School. He was an Eagle Scout and was active in Boy Scout Troop 11 and Explorer post 311 in Jackson. He also served on staff at Boy Scout Camp Lewallen, was former Lodge Chief for Order of the Arrow of Southeast Missouri in 1968 and was a Vigil Honor member.
He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War.
James supervised meat departments for Schnucks, National and Dierberg groceries, retiring in 2013 from Dierberg's in St. Louis.
After retirement, James moved back to Jackson. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, also the church of his baptism and confirmation, and was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where he volunteered his time with fundraisers and served on the church board.
James' favorite pastime was fishing.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Charlotte (Jimmy) Tripp and children, Geremy and Raymond of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sons, Michael Lichtenegger and sons, Joshua and Zachary of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Stephen (Deana) Lichtenegger and son, Noah, of St. Joseph, Missouri; a brother, John (Donna) Lichtenegger of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Fran Lichtenegger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Anita Lichtenegger of Jackson; six nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and -nephews; and many cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and David Lichtenegger.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday in chapel A of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Eric Longman officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran School or Boy Scout Troop 11.
