ST. MARYS James Layton, 71, of St. Marys, died Saturday, May 9, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 17, 1920 in Perry County, son of James and Lula Skaggs Layton.

He married Mary L. Layton on Oct. 5, 1974. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Lanny Layton of Barnhart; a daughter, Maxine Blackledge of St. Louis; two stepsons, Joseph Hudson of St. Louis and John Hudson of Silver Lake; one stepdaughter, Debra K. Rottler of Bloomsdale; one brother, Everett Layton of Chester, Ill.; a sister, Eula Mendel of St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

One brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery at St. Marys.
