PERRYVILLE -- James M. "Jim" Lakenan Jr., 70, of Perryville died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Perry County, son of James M. and Clara Hoff Lakenan Sr. He and Frances Clara Ponder were married June 14, 1947.

Lakenan was a 1943 graduate of Perryville High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1950.

He was a retired livestock and agriculture farmer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 133 and Elks Lodge 2701. Lakenan served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James "Jack" Lakenan of Perryville, John Lakenan of Huntington, W.Va.; a daughter, Barbara Hubick of Barnhart; his mother of Perryville; and five grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Home Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Loesch officiating.

Young and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
