JACKSON, Mo. -- James P. Joyce, 84, of Jackson died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born on Oct. 16, 1916, at Cape Girardeau, son of Robert Lee and Cynthia Ann Gibony Joyce. He served in the Navy in World War II. JACKSON, Mo. -- James P. Joyce, 84, of Jackson died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1916, at Cape Girardeau, son of Robert Lee and Cynthia Ann Gibony Joyce.

He served in the Navy in World War II. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.

He worked at the Procter & Gamble plant in Cape Girardeau County for 12 years. He previously worked for the Cape Special Road District and was a dairy farmer.

He was a member of the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and the American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

He and Bessie Geraldine Mason were married in October 1949, at Piggott, Ark. She died Feb. 25, 2001.

Survivors include his son, Charles R. Joyce of Jackson; and a daughter, Flora Ann Hendricks of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Monday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rice officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau handled the arrangements.
