James Martin Jost, 73, of Jackson passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. James Martin Jost, 73, of Jackson passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

James was born Feb. 28, 1949, in St. Louis, son of Martin and Bessie Chapman Jost. He and Doris Holmes were married Aug. 15, 1970, in St. Louis. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Dana Jost.

He was an industrial arts teacher, having taught at Meadow Heights, Perryville and Union school districts in Missouri. He also served as a principal for Marquand (Missouri) High School.

James was a member of Jackson Trial Riders, Gateway Leather Guild and a lifetime member of S.A.S.S. He volunteered for Girl Scout Horsemanship Program and Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship Program.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, Feb. 15, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
