James P. McLain, 88, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 20, 1931, in Fruitland, son of Bern and Edith Estes McLain. He and Della Estell Stovall were married July 30, 1982, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
James was a 1950 graduate of Jackson Senior High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Dec. 6, 1951, and was honorably discharged Sept. 16, 1954.
He worked for Ceramo, retiring after 40 years. He also raised cattle and hogs. James attended The Good Life Church near Gordonville. He was a member of the American Legion at Jackson, MFA and Farm Bureau.
Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years, Della McLain; son Hank Baker of Jackson; and grandson, Ronnie Slinkard of Scott City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, B.W. McLain, and two sisters, Alma Hodgekiss and Ada Bell McLain.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. J.D. Smith officiating. Military honors will follow.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home.
