ADVANCE, Mo. -- James "Jamie" H. Jacobs, 61, of Advance, was born Aug. 15, 1949, at Cape Girardeau, the son of Hardy and Bessie Kemp Jacobs, and passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Jamie was a 1967 graduate of Advance High School. He attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Putnam. He was a member of the Advance United Methodist Church.
Throughout his entire life, Jamie was an avid outdoorsman. He was an enthusiastic hunter who enjoyed being in the deer woods. Music was also an important part of his life. Everyone who knew Jamie was aware of his passion for the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. In his later years, Jamie became a fan of the Internet. He spent many hours keeping track of his family and friends on Facebook. He also formed many new friendships using the website.
Survivors include two sisters, Linda (Doug) Roe of Advance and Dixie (Lloyd) Hitt of Advance; a nephew, Terry Hitt of Advance; three nieces, Gina Pletcher of Advance, Stacy Roe-Goode of Bloomfield, Mo., and Heather Roe of Advance; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel with the Rev. Earl Elfrink officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
