CHAFFEE, Mo. -- James Hunter Jr., son of the late James Hunter Sr. and Mary Martin, was born April 21, 1944 in Missouri and departed this life Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at his residence in Chaffee at the age of 76 years.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. He was also a former railroad conductor for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and a member of the Chaffee Elks Lodge.
On Nov. 29, 1974, he was united in marriage to Janice Hendrix in Chaffee. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Dooley of Chaffee and Laura Perdue of Australia; three grandchildren, Olivia Horrell, Bryce Horrell and Will Hunter; and a great-granddaughter, Alleigha Findley.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter at infancy and by one sister.
Visitation will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. An Elks service will the be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
