MOREHOUSE -- James C. Hewitt, 72, of Morehouse died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born May 18, 1926, in Canalou, son of Nathaniel Green and Grace Marie Pointer Hewitt. He and Margaret H. DeArman were married Aug. 3, 1945, in Canalou.
Hewitt owned and operated Hewitt's Barber Shop more than 40 years, and was also a cabinetmaker.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310, member and past worthy patron of Morehouse Chapter 450 Order of Eastern Star.
Hewitt was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Hewitt of Dexter, Paul Hewitt of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Susan Chadd of Sikeston; a brother, Ronnie Hewitt of Canalou; two sisters, Freida Hillis of Ft. Myers, Fla., Pat Siebert of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Masonic service will be at 7.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. J.D. McClard officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at Sikeston, with military rites by Southeast Missouri Veterans Honor Guard from Poplar Bluff.
