James O. "Ollie" Harris, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at his home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton, Ill.
The funeral will be at noon today at the funeral home, with Greg Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Etna Cemetery in Akin, Ill., with military rites conducted by Benton American Legion and VFW.
Ollie was born Oct. 26, 1929, in St. Louis, son of Marion Harris and Pearl Richardson Harris. He married Frieda "Fay" Summers July 18, 1953.
He worked 32 years in the research and development department of Potter and Brumfield in Princeton, Ind.
He served with the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean conflict.
Ollie served as a deacon in his church and loved to play golf and baseball. He was a man of solid character.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Fay Harris; a son, Kevin Harris and wife Cathy of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Cassidy and Hayley Harris of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Betty Christensen of Akin; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd Harris.
