EAST PRARIE -- James Franklin Smith, 71, of East Prairie, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 1991, of a heart attack.
He was born April 18, 1920 in Carrie Mills, Tenn., son of James F. and Bessie Brice Smith. He lived in Mississippi County most of his life where he was a farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of East Prairie, where he served as a deacon. He was also an Army veteran of World War II and Vietnam.
In 1946, he married Doris Reeves. She died Nov. 6, 1963. On Dec. 6, 1969, he married Mary Alice Morgan Hurt, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Lloyd Smith, Sikeston, Eric Smith, East Prairie, and Macky H. Smith, Glen Allen; two step-sons, Dr. Mark Hurt, St. Louis and Dane Hurt, Spring, Texas; two sisters, Christine Light and Louise Combs, both of Rossville, Ga., and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home, East Prairie. Service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Dave Bowden, pastor of First Christian Church officiating and the Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of First Church of God, assisting. Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
