Funeral for James Evans Sr. of Cape Girardeau will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Wiley Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday at the church after 10 a.m.
Massie Funeral Home in Cairo, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Evans, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services of Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 7, 1916, in West Point, Miss., son of Eley and Elizabeth Evans. He married Flora Bell, who died in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Milbert Evans of St. Louis, James Evans Jr. of Florissant, Mo.; a daughter, Doris Refeld of St. Louis; three sisters, Elizabeth, Maggie and Lula; a brother, Spurgon; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, five brothers, and three sisters.
