JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. -- James Robert Dunn, 89, of Johnston City, formerly of Olive Branch, Illinois, passed away at 9:43 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at the home of his granddaughter. Mr. Dunn was born March 7, 1928, at Elco, Illinois, son of the late Herschel Lee Dunn and Clara Bell Lacey Dunn...

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. -- James Robert Dunn, 89, of Johnston City, formerly of Olive Branch, Illinois, passed away at 9:43 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at the home of his granddaughter.

Mr. Dunn was born March 7, 1928, at Elco, Illinois, son of the late Herschel Lee Dunn and Clara Bell Lacey Dunn.

Mr. Dunn retired after 30 years as a railroad engineer with the Missouri Pacific Railroad Co. He was a World War II veteran; a member of the Pulaski-Alexander County Sportsmen Club in Miller City; and a member of the Masonic Lodge 1030 AF/AM of Cahokia, Illinois.

Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Bridges Dunn on Aug. 27, 2002; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda G. Smith of Perryville, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law, Larry D. and Nancy Dunn of Olive Branch; six grandchildren, including a granddaughter with whom he made his home, Melissa Dunn Farmer of Johnston City; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at Jones Funeral Home Tamms, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. by members of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 47 AF/AM of Olive Branch.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 26 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in rural Dongola, Illinois, with full military honors by Illinois National Guard Burial Team and area veterans.
