Dr. James M. Drickey, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Spencer, Neb., to Charles A. and Blanche Dorothy Drickey.
James attended county schools and Spencer Public Schools during his elementary and high school years. After graduation he taught elementary school in Crawford and Harrison County until entering the U.S. Army.
He served in the Army as a chaplain's assistant 3 1/2 years. James completed his Ph.D. degree in psychology at the University of Denver. He taught psychology and worked in administration at Southeast Missouri State University 36 years. During his tenure, in addition to teaching, he served as a consultant for Head Start and worked with the Bureau of Disability Determination.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Randy Shrum officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Missouri Honor Guard.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
