SIKESTON -- Funeral service for James O. Dowdy of Sikeston was held Thursday at Ponder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jake Lawson officiating. Burial was in Dogwood Cemetery at East Prairie.
Dowdy, 67, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, as a result of a boating accident on the Mississippi River.
He was born June 7, 1929, at Steele, son of Dock and Carrie M. Epperson Dowdy. He and Beatrice Burns were married Nov. 3, 1952.
Dowdy was retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Tom Sterling of Plainfield, Ill.; three daughters, Betty Mijares of Canalou, Deborah Solis of Sikeston, Theresa Eurjevic of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Henry Dowdy of Aurora, Ill., Calvin Dowdy of Texas City, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers and a sister.
