James Cartee Jr.

James Curtis "Jim" Cartee Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 13, 1935, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to James Curtis and Lillie Mae McCreight Cartee Sr. Jim served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from Dec. 16, 1953, to Dec. 15, 1956. James Curtis "Jim" Cartee Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 13, 1935, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to James Curtis and Lillie Mae McCreight Cartee Sr.

Jim served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from Dec. 16, 1953, to Dec. 15, 1956. He later worked as a property and casualty insurance agent in Southeast Missouri.

Survivors include a daughter, Layna Kirchner of Jackson; and grandchildren, Allen and Cambree Kirchner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Visitation will conclude with the observance of military honors. Burial will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau or the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
