Capt. James Thomas Carlton, 76, of Mount Pleasant, Utah, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at his home.
He was born Oct. 27, 1927, in St. Louis, son of Capt. John T. and Emma Harris Carlton. He and Anna Jane Poulson were married in 1955 in Garden City, Nev.
Carlton worked most of his life on the Mississippi River. He worked for Mobil Oil Corp. 25 years, retiring as master captain.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Carlton of Rhode Island, Karl Carlton of Utah; five daughters, Diana Jennings of Arizona, Terri Olsen of Arkansas, Dominic Ashley, Julie Blanchard and Valerie Alder, all of Utah; three sisters, Billie Boston, Johnny Sumpter and Pauline Koch of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Ron Watts and James Carlton will officiate.
