SIKESTON -- James L. Burns Sr., 69, of Sikeston died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his home.
He was born June 10, 1930, in Sikeston, son of the Rev. Tom and Ethel Hawkins Burns. He and Mary M. Counsil were married April 6, 1949, in Sikeston.
Burns worked 35 years at All Steel Inc. in Aurora, Ill.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lenny Burns of Sikeston, Bob Burns of Shell Knob; five daughters, Karen Cooksey of Matthews, Cheryl Finnerty of Allen, Texas, Terri Phillips of St. Paul, Va., Lisa Lee and Beth Russell of Sikeston.
Also surviving are four brothers, Howard and Roger Burns of Sikeston, Earl and Jack Burns of Diehlstadt; four sisters, Viola Britt of Canalou, Sandra Hurley of Fredericktown, Darlene Burns of Brighton, Ill., Sadie Jenkins of Sikeston; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a sister, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Mark Odle officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery at Matthews.
