CAIRO, Ill. -- James K. Bourland, 83, of Cairo died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born May 20, 1922, in Cairo, son of Herbert C. and Lillian Knight Bourland. He was the owner of Bourland Paint Co. in Cairo before his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo VFW Post 2649...

CAIRO, Ill. -- James K. Bourland, 83, of Cairo died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 20, 1922, in Cairo, son of Herbert C. and Lillian Knight Bourland.

He was the owner of Bourland Paint Co. in Cairo before his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo VFW Post 2649.

He was past president of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Cairo Rotary Club, and served on the Alexander County Draft Board and the Cairo Airport Authority.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bourland; a daughter, Chari Willis of Goose Creek, S.C.; a son, Ron Bourland of Wickliffe, Ky.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

There is no visitation.

Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mound City National Cemetery, with Monsignor Bill McGhee officiating. Military honors will be by VFW Post 8891 and the U.S. Navy.

Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
