James Alfred Smith, 64, of 1537 N. Water died Friday, April 17, 1992, on a family fishing trip at Kentucky Lake.
He was born May 4, 1927 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Charles and Gertrude Davie Smith.
He was a lifetime resident of Cape Girardeau.
On Feb. 25, 1950, he married the former Martha Lynn Chappell at Piggott, Ark. She survives.
In addition, three sons survive, Steven, Charles and Michael Smith all of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Linda Mons, Cape Girardeau, Judy Craigmiles, Cordova, Ill.; a sister, Bertha Osburn, Potosi; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Harold Grauel Masonic Lodge 672 and VFW Post 3838.
He worked 28 years for Paramount Painting Company and seven years for Precision Painting Company. He retired in January 1991.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel with the Rev. John Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park.
Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m.
