Jack William Weith, 81, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Perryville, Mo., to Oscar W. and Louisa DiFani Weith.
Jack was a 1945 graduate of Perryville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 30, 1945, and was honorably discharged May 15, 1947. He earned a degree in civil engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 1957.
He and Shirley Henderson were married Feb. 1, 1958.
Jack was city engineer for the city of Jackson 18 years, retiring in 1990. He was instrumental in starting the girls basketball program at Jackson High School in 1976. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley of Jackson; three sons, Richard Weith (fiancee Diane) of Dittmer, Mo., John (Rosa) Weith of Arlington, Texas, Patrick Weith (fiancee Clarita) of De Soto, Mo.; a daughter, Jacqueline (Roy) Fuentes of Sunnyvale, Texas; five grandchildren, Bailey, Nicholas and Jake Weith, Ashley and Kelli Fuentes; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Wilhelm; and a brother, James (Jan) Weith of Sun City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gene Lorenzen.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7:30, followed immediately by Missouri Military Honors service.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
