L. Jack Schlichter, 69, 1826 Niemann, died Thursday, March 27, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 13, 1927, in St. Clair County, Ill., son of Leo Joseph and Katherine Vogel Schlichter. He and LeVern Range were married June 13, 1953, in Rolla. She died Sept. 24, 1976.

Schlichter received a degree in chiropractics from Logan University in St. Louis, and had a practice from 1950-55.

He had lived in Cape Girardeau more than 30 years, and was a claims supervisor and adjuster with USF&G 24 years. He attended Mt. Auburn Christian Church. Schlichter served 13 months in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two sons, David Schlichter of Ft. Collins, Colo., Mark Schlichter of St. Charles; three daughters, Jean Harpole of Cape Girardeau, Linda Wiggins of Advance, Mary Holochuck of Elk Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Mildred Birkett and Naomi McCord of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Wes Wright officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Columbia, Ill.
