Ivan Alphonse Brewer, 100, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Lutheran Home, after a short illness.
Ivan was born on May 14, 1922, in Claryville, Missouri, to Frances and Elvis Brewer.
He attended Southeast Missouri College before enlisting in the United States Army Air Forces where he served as a bombardier in the European Theatre of World War II. He reached the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. On April 12, 1944, he married Yvonne Breig of St. Mary, Missouri.
After discharge from the United State Army Air Forces, Ivan returned to Cape Girardeau and began his career at Cape Electrical Supply where he held the position of owner/treasurer until the business was sold in 1987. He was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; four children, Ralph (Sharon) Brewer of Round Rock, Texas, Diane Brewer of Cape Girardeau, Dennis (Paula) Brewer of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Jane (Tim) Verble of Centralia, Missouri; as well as five grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Rodgers, Ian (Meredith) Brewer, Brad (Jennifer) Brewer, Melanie (Davin) Gambill and Steven (Rachel) Verble; eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral mass will immediately follow with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
