MATTHEWS -- Iva Lee Parsons, 83, of Amory, Miss., formerly of Matthews, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Miss.
She was born Sept. 14, 1915, at Portageville, daughter of Gilbert and Florence Asa Harden. She and Dennis Leon Parsons were married on March 10, 1932. He died in May 1981.
She was postmaster at the Matthews Post Office and had been a route carrier for 25 years, serving the communities of Matthews and East Prairie.
She had been a member of First Christian Church in Matthews until she moved to Mississippi in 1977. She was a member of the North Boulevard Christian Church in Armory and a member of the Ladies Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Alsup of Aberdeen, Miss.; a sister, Sylvia H. Atwill of St. Louis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The Rev. Caston Countz will officiate, with burial at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
