JACKSON -- Irene S. Kasten, 105, of Jackson, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 1995, at Jackson Manor.
She was born Oct. 5, 1890, near Fruitland, daughter of John N. and Alice Jane Sloan Short. She and John Kasten were married June 6, 1920. He died March 25, 1949.
Kasten was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She taught school a number of years at Oak Ridge and Pocahontas, and was Cape Girardeau County registrar several years. She was active in the county Democratic Party.
She became a member of Apple Creek Presbyterian Church in 1928 and wrote a book on the history of the church. After moving to Jackson she became a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the church's Hannah Circle, member and past president of GFWC Thursday Literary Club.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Amanda Short of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
