Irene King, 92, of Jackson passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home. She was surrounded by her loving family at her passing. She was born May 21, 1917, at Neelys Landing, Mo., daughter of William E. and Jessie P. Drum Brown. She and Woodrow King were married Nov. 7, 1934. They had been married almost 67 years when he passed away Oct. 20, 2001...

Irene King, 92, of Jackson passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home. She was surrounded by her loving family at her passing.

She was born May 21, 1917, at Neelys Landing, Mo., daughter of William E. and Jessie P. Drum Brown. She and Woodrow King were married Nov. 7, 1934. They had been married almost 67 years when he passed away Oct. 20, 2001.

Irene was raised at Neelys Landing and attended the former High Hill School.

She and Woodrow started their family at Neelys Landing, and moved to the Jackson area in 1958. She worked at the former Wimpy's restaurant in Cape Girardeau, and then was a seamstress several years at Rust and Martin in Cape Girardeau.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include four sons, Ed (Deanna) King of Medical Lake, Wash., John (Kim) King of Jackson, Jerry (Kandy) King of Frohna, Mo., Gary King (friend Kathy Raines) of Jackson; five daughters, Shelby (John) Gilmore of Jackson, Gladys (Martin) Blumenthal of St. Louis, Mary (Dean) Talley of Soldotna, Alaska, Nancy (Duayne) Williams of Jackson, Becky (Jeff) Kelley of Jackson; a son-in-law, Joe Scheffer of Jackson; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wilson King; a daughter, Marcy Scheffer; an infant son, Robert Lee; two grandchildren; and 10 siblings.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Greg King of Bread of Life Restoration Center in Jackson will officiate.

Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
