Ira B. Dykes, 97, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he resided the past five years.

He was born Aug. 25, 1920, in Oklahoma. He and Ruby Eskew were married Nov. 14, 1942. They had been married 64 years when Ruby passed away Feb. 3, 2007.

Ira was a private in the U.S. Army, serving honorably from Sept. 2, 1942, to June 20, 1943.

The Dykes family resided many years in California, where Ira worked in retail auto sales. He served over 50 years as a deacon at the Church of God of Prophecy in El Sobrante, California. He was currently a member of the congregation in Delta.

Loving survivors include three children, Roger Dykes and Pamela Powell of Jackson and Carol Ann Gay of Roseville, California; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, William Chester McFarland III.

Burial was private at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
