HOLLISTER, Mo. -- Hugh Collins Anthony Aldredge was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Los Angeles. He was the son of John Angus Aldredge II and Jenny Rita Gallagher Aldredge.

Hugh was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in November 1965. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Hornet. After his service, Hugh was a towboat captain and pilot for commercial barge lines on the Upper Mississippi River, Ohio River and Illinois River for over 43 years. He was known as "Baby Hughie" on the river and to his motorcycle buddies.

Hugh married his loving wife, Sharon, July 6, 2000 in Cape Girardeau on the Mississippi riverfront. He had lived many places over his life and moved to Hollister from Jackson in 2017.

He entered into rest at his home Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the age of 70.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jenny Aldredge, and a son, Jason Michael Anton.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Aldredge of Hollister; sons, Tony (Jenny) Aldredge of Cape Girardeau and William Karl Aldredge of Oak Ridge; daughters, Wendi (Chuck) Field of Aliso Viejo, California, Cindy (Mike) Atkinson of Columbia, Missouri, Juli Anna Aldredge of Chicago and Genevieve Edge of Escondido, California; brothers, John Angus (Judy) Aldredge III of Newport News, Virginia, Carl (Sandee) Aldredge of Comanche, Iowa, and Patrick Aldredge of Oak Ridge; sisters, Minta Jane (David) Lequcyer of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Rita Ann Schoenebeck of Jackson, Marie Elaina Aldredge of Bentonville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Michael, Robbie, Brittney, Catherine, Zaida, Nathaniel and Tyler; two great-granddaughters; and previous wives, Barbara Buchannon of Conway, Arkansas, and Patricia Maxwell of Oak Ridge.

Memorial services will be held April 28 in Cape Girardeau and May 5 in Hollister. Locations and times will be announced.

In Hugh's memory, contributions may be made to Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, 1638 E. Highway 76, Branson, MO 65616.
